Altar of the Peruvian Saint at Saint Dominique Church of Lima In this beautiful church we can see the skulls of famous Saint Rose of Lima and Saint Martin of Porres There is unique way living the Catholic faith by most Peruvians , this form of religions is called Sincretismo (syncretism) and takes elements from the our native believes and those imported after the conquest. A good explanation of this can be found on the extract below taken from my latest favorite book: “ After the early period of christianization and diluted the spirit of extirpation of the Doctrineros and Visitadores from the first half of the XVII century, is understandable that the indigenous ritual practices could continue developing, under the shade of a religious authority many times absent or, in many other cases, implicitly pleasing - for sympathy or interest - with those ancestral manifestations. The little interest of the priests in eliminating - or reporting - these practices from XVIII century , can find an answer in two factors. First, the origin of the priests doctrineros, Since the application of the Trento council, existed the obligation of the priests to know the language of the indigenous , in this case Aymara. This reason indicates why the biggest majority of of priests in the parishes In the high platoe were originally from the south andes: Puneños, Arequipeños, Cusqueños, or Paceños (from Puno, Arequipa, Cusco or La Paz). One of the most memorable tour groups I had. Last Tuesday we had a very special tour in Lima, focused among other things in food.
