The parks of Lima are decorated with many different and multicolored types of flowers: Bougainvilleas, African Tulips, Orchids, Morning Glories… and Angel’s Trumpets, these last ones are as beautiful as they are big, hanging down from trees, all dressed in an angelical white… they look so innocent! but the reality is completely different.
The Angel’s Trumpet belongs to the family of the Brugmansias, a species of flower consider poisonous. In the pre-Columbian era, native tribes of America gave many medicinal uses to this plant, especially to heal various deceases (inflammatory and respiratory), in the seeds was discovered the most potent and important benefits of all, its narcotic, anesthetic, and hallucinogenic properties.

This toxic beauty is called Chamico or Chamiku in Quechua (a native language of Peru) and was used as a drug, mixed with Chicha was used to sedate people to be sacrificed or used during rituals of divination. A lethal flower that you can see everywhere in the, sometimes, not too conservative city of Lima.
