Which hotels and Airbnbs I’ve used in Colombia?

I recently got this question from a reader and, trying to help you out with this sometimes difficult process of the planning and organization of a trip, I decide to give you a complete list of all the hotels and Airbnbs I have used in Colombia with prices and locations, plus a personal comment about the service, hoping this could be of help to the future visitor to these top destinations in this country: Bogota, Cartagena, and Mompox.

  • BOGOTA

Apartment in Chapinero (57 street, next to the Transmilenio bus station) – Airbnb

Owner: Ramiro.

The apartment of Ramiro is for far the best located for an adventurous couple or family that wants to be well located, is willing to use public transport and wants to be close to everywhere. this small and cozy apart. has kitchen and laundry, is located on a 5th floor and has a spectacular view, and there is even a doorman!. P.S.: this building don’t have an elevator, but it worth completely to do the effort of taking all the luggage up to get the benefits of your own apartment in Bogota.

Extras: the is an extra bed (convertible sofa) is you are traveling with 1 or 2 kids with no extra charge. He also offers tours in Bogota, by the way, a discount is applied to all his guests.

Apartment in Chapinero (street 14 A Numero 70 – 33. half block away from the Ave. Caracas.)

Owner: Jose.

This brand new apartment was a big surprise, first because we saw no comments about it but the pictures and location looked great, so we took the rist…and what a surprise it was! end up being a hidden jewel of the city and we were the first clients of its owner. Lucky us.

comfortable and beautiful, the owner and his mother were super friendly and helpful, they gave us directions and all kinds of info to make us feel comfortable. The apartment was quiet and warm… and just a couple of blocks away from the bus station.

Extras: Jose operates his own walking tours in Bogota, this can be helpful if you are planning to get a guide to see the city.

  • CARTAGENA DE INDIAS

Casa Bohemia (inside the walled city) – Hotel

Manager: Mrs. Mirella

This colonial style house is the best place to stay in during your visit to the walled city of Cartagena de Indias, a quiet corner of the old city (quietness is hardly found in the most famous destination of Colombia), rooms are comfortable (all with aircon) and even Frigobar, breakfast is included.

Extras: Mrs. Mirella is a wonderful person, she can give you info about how to get to anywhere around (like museums or beaches) and where the best restaurants are.

Price per night: about 50 dollars

  • MOMPOX

Hostal: Sol de Agua B&B and Restaurant

Manager: Marta

My number 1 option in Mompox for a comfortable room, great coffee and ambiance is the guesthouse Sol de Agua, they have everything in one same place offering coffee, drinks, and food, and have as well rooms on rent for travelers, comes highly recommended, the owner and staff are kind, friendly and speak English.

Extras: Their coffee is fantastic (they even have a cappuccino machine) and offers sandwiches and other things, their location is beyond perfect, the best part of all for me, the front door looks directly to the river. Relax taking a book from their collection and enjoy a moment of peace. By the way, they have a system of book exchange, take one and leave one for their free communal library. One more thing, if you ever go there try their sour cream of cheese, it comes with the sandwich and is yummy!
